freckles of north
[23/12/13]
twig fingers cloud breath
prayer elbows
i am so mortal, i lost north
when she fell out of my pocket, i
tracked her across the night sky &
documented our shivers in nanoseconds, in calculus
as if i knew what i was doing. i read the classics
and reveled in my ignorance, brandished it
on a diploma, my name scrawled on a shriveled piece of eternity crumpled in human hands,
trading years to light candles in hopes of rivaling the stars.
i think a church should have an open roof
even when it rains, how else will we look brazenly
into the eye of god & declare independence, how else
will we justify our apathetic wisdom
